In: Journal of Applied Animal Ethics Research

BY Steven Seet and Richard McLellan

This paper explores the ethical complexities of environmental challenges, such as biodiversity loss, habitat fragmentation, climate change, and plastic pollution. It emphasizes the need for a holistic approach combining advanced technologies, ethical research, and transparent media strategies to achieve effective conservation outcomes. Using the critically endangered northern white rhinoceros as a case study, the BioRescue project highlights the role of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) in conservation efforts. The paper underscores the importance of ethical frameworks like the ETHical ASsessment Tool (ETHAS) to ensure alignment with societal values and animal welfare, alongside the critical influence of media in driving public engagement and resource mobilization. It concludes by proposing ways to optimize the integration of conservation technology, ethics, and communication.
