Sven Bocklandt, Ph.D.

Sven Bocklandt, Ph.D. brings 11 years of industry experience in genome analysis and 15 years of experience in animal genetic engineering to Colossal. Prior to Colossal, Sven was VP, Scientific Affairs and Corporate Communication at Bionano Genomics, a NASDAQ-listed global genome analysis company, where he shaped Bionano’s global messaging strategy.  He was also a co-founder of Felix Pets, which produced  a hypo-allergenic gene edited cat using 3 generations of gene editing tools (ZFN,TALEN, CRISPR-Cas9). Earlier in his career, before earning his doctoral degree, Sven was a science journalist for Belgian public television, where he wrote and produced over 50 TV segments and two documentaries communicating complex scientific and technological breakthroughs for a broad prime time audience.  He received his Bachelor’s in Biology and Master’s degree in Biotechnology from University of Ghent in Belgium and earned his doctoral degree in Molecular Genetics from University of Antwerp, Belgium.  During his postdoctoral research at UCLA , he developed and patented groundbreaking epigenetic method to accurately predict the age of an individual.  As Colossal’s Species Director, he is leading a team of scientists to bring back some of the most incredible animals that went extinct thousands of years ago.
